A daily "who to call" list was among Product Hunt's top launches on October 21, 2026 (producthunt.com front page). This is that idea for the people in your own life, with nothing kept unless you keep it.
Call them before the lantern goes out.
List the people you mean to keep in touch with - when you last talked, how often you want to, a line of notes. Each one hangs as a lantern, bright or going dark. One run picks today's calls in a fixed order (what you owe first, then a date that is close, then whoever is overdue), with two talking points from your own notes and an opener to send first.
1 Your people
Last talked: a date (2026-09-30, Sep 30, 9/30), "3 weeks ago", "yesterday", or ? for no date. How often: weekly, 2w, monthly, 6w, 3m, every 10 days - empty means every 30 days.
2 The string
- Lit - under three quarters of your rhythm
- Dimming - past three quarters
- Dim - past your rhythm
- Dark - twice past it, or no date
- Banded - the notes ask to hold off

3 Pick today's calls
The model works only from your list: it judges who you owe and who asked for space, keeps the page's day counts, and writes talking points and an opener from your notes - no news, plans, weekdays or he/she it cannot see there. The order is fixed: owed, a date within two weeks, overdue, drifting. Held people are never picked.

How the light is worked out
Each lantern compares the days since you last talked with the rhythm you gave that person. Under three quarters of the way it is lit; past three quarters it dims; past the rhythm it is dim; at twice the rhythm, or with no date at all, it is dark. Dates in your notes (Oct 26, 26 October, 10/26, 2026-10-26) are read and counted from the as-of day; a date with no year is taken as the nearest one. Press "Called" on a pick and that person's line gets today's date, so the lantern relights. These are counts on what you typed, not a measure of any friendship.
